The Tracker — walkthrough

Complete spoilers. Every puzzle, in order. If you only want a nudge, the hint page gives you one thing at a time.

Each entry is one command, in order, separated by slashes. Directions are abbreviated (n, se, u, d). This is the exact sequence the game's own test suite runs, so it is always current.

Act I — The Corrie

ground / d / read the water / s / ask kirsty about the news / ask kirsty about alasdair
ask kirsty about why / ask kirsty about the fire / ask kirsty about teach / n / n / examine the hag
take off my brogues / e / s / take the stone / wipe / n
n / sign / n / n

Brogues off at the peat, and brush out the one print you had no business leaving. Kirsty is free — asking costs nothing at all in this game, and what she says about why is the whole of the plot.

Act II — The Burn

spy / e / ground / e / ford the burn / ford the burn
e / e

Down the Sput and out at the Allt Beag. Two ford the burns and the whole middle of the country never sees you.

Act III — The Shieling

e / e / ask tormod about the notch / ask anna about him / warn anna / ask anna about the cattle
e / e

Straight across the brae to the huts and out by the burn, on grass and water the whole way, and nothing left in that bowl worth reading. warn anna costs nothing and is not nothing.

Act IV — The Bait

e / bait / lay a false line to the empty shieling / e / n / spy
d / e / e

The empty shieling: it costs the plaid on the thirtieth of July and it costs nobody else. lay a false line to allt beag is the other one and the game asks you twice.

Act V — The Pass

u / u / options / go down to him / ask alasdair about the sput / ask alasdair about following
ask alasdair about why / ask alasdair about june / ask alasdair about the murrain / options / take the murrain

The walkthrough goes down to him and takes the murrain. e from the pass is the corrie, n is the Balnain road, and going into the corrie with his line on you is the fourth.
