Thirty Fathoms — walkthrough
Each entry is one command, in order, separated by slashes.
Directions are abbreviated (n, se, u, d). This is
the exact sequence the game's own test suite runs, so it is always current.
Act I — The Salvage Barge Meredith
examine compressor / s / take clips / take bag / take torch / take airline n / read table / n / talk to ruth / ask ruth about hose / s use clip on compressor / n / dive
Everything you are going to want below is on this barge and none of it is handed to you: the clips, the bag, the torch and the airline, before you go anywhere near the ladder. And ask ruth about hose, because she is the only person on this job who will tell you the truth about the compressor.
Act II — The Boat Deck
d / d / w / take bell / read chart / e n / w / take box / examine jacket / e / use bag on davit n / open press / s / d / examine cots / cut lashing n / read daybook / n / examine drum / s / s u / s / u / wait / wait / wait wait / wait / u
Between the last two lines you will owe decompression. Type wait at the thirty-foot stage until Ruth says you are clear, then go up. Your air runs the whole time you hang, which is the entire game.
Act III — The Engine Spaces
d / d / n / w / take case / e unclip / e / use pump / use pump / use pump / w clip / n / examine rail / n / open door / s s / s / u / wait / wait / wait wait / wait / wait / u
Three cuts on the door and the ledger, and then up in stages. The waits are decompression and they are not padding — the air runs the whole time you hang.
Act IV — No. 4 Hold
d / d / use airline on ladder / d / n / cut door cut door / cut door / n / take ledger / s / s u / u / wait / wait / wait / wait wait / wait / u
use airline on ladder costs five minutes and nobody asks you to do it. It is the only way to get the best ending in Act V.
Act V — Below the Keel
d / d / n / take master / unclip / n free halloran / s / s / s / u / wait wait / wait / wait / wait / u
With the spare line rigged you save Halloran and keep the tin. Without it, taking the tin and leaving is one ending, and freeing him and losing the tin is another.
